Kinkajous (Potos flavus) are neotropical rainforest 🌴 arboreal mammals that are related to raccoons. They eat fruits, nectar, and…eggs 🥚. We have spotted them eating macaw eggs both in Tambopata, Peru, and in Punta Leona, Costa Rica. They also LOVE to sleep in tree cavities (and nest boxes too).🌳 Over the years we have had a few encounters with them when we climb to check on our macaw nests🦜.

Updates on an old friend 🦜💛 This Scarlet Macaw is TABASCO — 32 years old and one of the oldest confirmed records of a living macaw we’ve documented in the wild. He was banded as a chick in 1994 and recently showed up at one of our nest boxes… then we spotted him again in early January foraging in a palm. He was also a regular visitor around the lodge back before 2020, when we lived there, and he nested in our nest boxes from 2009 to 2014 — and then we had no more sightings of him in nests. Som

We are on nestbox watch ! Louie has just climbed down very carefully.. one of the eggs is hatching. Hopefully it’s here by tomorrow and all goes well. At this stage.. they can hear it pipping and calling out. 😍🐣 I love how she shows him.. but then reclaims her babies! These two are more than delightful to watch.
